A young couple Niall Lindsey, the Earl of Margrave, and Brilliana Trevor are separated when Niall leaves England after fighting a duel. He feels he cannot tell Bree his reasons and the result is years of separation and misunderstandings that also include Bree marrying to save her family. After his pardon, he returns to England and is blackmailed by the government into working with Bree to help catch a counterfeiter who just may be Bree’s father. By working together they slowly uncover the lies that tore them apart but trust is still hard to regain.
Sabrina Jeffries always does a wonderful job at quickly setting up the background of the story and allowing adequate time for the romance between the characters. It never feels that there are gaps in the story. Niall and Bree were a young couple who needed time to mature and grow before they were ready for a lasting relationship. Once this occurred they were a perfect match.
